and a splash of color

moving into the dorms was exciting in a sense, but i was very afraid it would lack hominess (is that a word?). with the linoleum floors and white cement walls, its easy for this place to feel slightly prison-like if proper arrangements aren't made. that said, decorating was high on my list of priorities and i intented to do it with a swiftness. here are the results. 

my  favorite is probably the light board. its so beautiful. i love the colors though. not a dull space in sight. please disregard the dirty laundry under the desk. the desk is not used for study purposes at the moment. at the time is was being used as more shelving and a place to hold the crafts/decorations for this revamping project. id like to say i did fairly well. maybe some tutorials are in the near future :)

big city, bright lights!

the light board is finally something i can check off my to do list. its a lot easier than i thought. [though a tad time consuming] and also very cheap. the lights were on sale at hobby lobby [love out of season shopping:)] and the board i found for a few dollars at micheal's. the most expensive was the gems i put on the edges, and those were pretty cheap too. all smiles. im still working on securing the lights though. i guess thatll come later.

Today random thoughts of party planning for my cousin, Britt, were running all through my head. It was thought after thought after thought until I finally realized that I'm never in town for her birthday :( Hopefully this year I can work something out, but here are few of the ideas- tweaked of course.

I was thinking of giving each girl a piece of "cake". Each would be have a few small party favors in it. But the main one would be a handmade charm bracelet. Similar to the necklace I previously made, with poly clay charms, but these would be more colorful and fun for the little ones.

And these would be the cutest place mats. Personalized is a thought, with each girl's name on it. The maze would lead Britt to large boxes of presents. Maybe some other activities along the sides.

To remember it all would be a cork board or something like it, and all throughout the party I could take plenty of pictures and towards the end stick them in there. Maybe get some pictures with each friend girl and let them sign it. I would be soo cute. I'm too excited for something that I might not even get to do this year. Lol. Story of my life.
